Coleman Hops
Our Hop Farms
Willamette Valley, Oregon
As one of the largest and most diverse hop growers in Oregon, we produce millions of pounds of high-quality hops each year, from a dozen distinct varieties. We raise hops on our four distinct farms in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
A few statistics are consistent across the Willamette Valley: The average yearly temperature is 61° F, with an average annual rainfall of 44 inches. All of our farms are estimated at 175 feet above sea level. Now let’s explore the differences from farm to farm.

Homeplace Farm is named for being the first property owned by the Coleman family, it was purchased from Mary Ellen Jackson Coleman in 1936, Originally 400 acres, the farm has more than doubled in size, with numerous varieties of hops, along with other crops such as grass seed, hazelnuts, garlic and a vineyard of Pinot Noir grapes.
In 2017, the hop kiln was rebuilt and upgraded with MeasureTek, to aid in better production and efficiency as our historic farm continues to grow.

Named for the alluvial plain where the fields are located, the Alluvial Hop Farm was purchased from John I. Haas in 2005. Today, this 1,050 contiguous acre farm, hugged by the Willamette River, is recognized as the largest hop farm in Oregon. This farm raises hops from a dozen distinct varieties, is home to Indie Hops’ Advance Nursery and includes modern harvesting equipment such as a 12-kiln hop house featuring MeasureTek systems.
Located in the area that was once lauded as the "Hop Capital of the World" in the 1900s, Alluvial continually provides some of the most desirable Oregon hops.

MOUNT ANGEL FARM
6801 Humpert Ln NE, Mt. Angel, Oregon 97362
-
We started operating the Mount Angel Farm in 1975 when our lease with the Mount Angel Abbey Seminary first began. The site is hop to the oldest remaining hop harvester and kiln in Oregon.
For many years, Willamette Hops for Anheuser-Busch were the only variety grown on this farm. We now grow several hop varieties on more than 200 acres in this quaint Bavarian town, where we also cultivate Hazelnuts.
We appreciate our long-time relationship with the Abbey and its monk-operated Benedictine Brewery.

GreenLeaf Hop Farm was purchased in 2020 from our cousins Steve Coleman and Todd Koch, it was established by Steve's parents Don and Maureen Coleman. This farm is just a mile and a half down the road from the Homeplace Farm, consisting of fertile bottom ground along the Willamette River, with plentiful riparian areas and upper bench ground. We grow approximately 200 acres of hops on this site.
Cascade Hops are particularly well-suited for this site, and Greenleaf has garnered a total of five awards from the Hop Quality Group’s Cascade Cup, scoring top honors in 2024 and 2021, and runner-up in 2023 and 2019.

We proudly grow hops for
Innovative hop cultivars are what really moves the needle at Indie Hops, and the Coleman family is proud to be growing along with them as they introduced Oregon-grown Strata®, Meridian®, Lórien®, Luminosa® and in 2023, Audacia® hops to the world.
The hops that we grow for Indie are certified Salmon-Safe, it’s vital to us that we protect Pacific Northwest rivers and wildlife. We are proud that our Alluvial and GreenLeaf Hop Farms are certified 100% Salmon Safe.
As one of the original hop farming families in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, the Coleman family is proud to be a Yakima Chief Hops owner-grower. Rooted in centuries of farming, Yakima Chief firmly believes that quality hops begin in the field and we appreciate their collaborative approach to meeting the needs of the world’s brewers.
In addition to Salmon-Safe , our Yakima Chief Hops varieties (Citra®, Mosaic® and Simcoe®) are farmed to the standards of the Green Chief Program.
